i think its root rot...your pot doesnt seem to have any drainage holes where excess water can seep out and some air to come in...phals tend to lose their leaves when their roots are in trouble...

i think its ok if you have the accompanying certificates (Cites, phytosanitary..etc) from the growers, i think most growers would provide that as long as you ask for it, but i think we should ask...
