Talking rare orchids

does anyone knows a site where rare species of dendros, vanda, oncidium are posted. I have a hard time scrambling for numerous sites but havent found any. I'm pretty fascinated with these. And hopefully some of the species do have it in the philippines! thanks!

I think the largest selection of species orchids I've seen on the web is Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Orchids - Species Specialist - Orchids on a stick Although I've never ordered from him, I have never heard a bad thing, everyone raves about his service and plants. I'll order soon I'm sure

Be careful with "rare" on ebay. Some people have different ideas of what that means. I've seen a vendor advertising rare orchids... which are their own hybrid crosses. So yes, they're "rare" at the time being because they're brand new, but not neccissarily anything special.

I did buy some miniature species from Andy's Orchids at a recent Orchid Show here in Southern, Cali and totally satisfied with my purchase.

I have purchased quite a few plants (don't tell the fiance') from Andy's and I *LOVE* them. I haven't been disappointed in any of them.

Andy's is in a tie with my other favorite site: Exotic Orchids of Maui.

Andy's has a larger ongoing selection but keep a eye on EOOM's site, they release new stock constantly. I've purchased beautiful vandas, bulbos, dendros (mini's), Dendrochilum, epi's, and Masdevallias from both of them and have never, never been disappointed. They are a bit more pricey but worth it!

Oh, as mentioned, be very very careful with some of the e-bay sellers. As mentioned, "rare" is a very loose term on e-bay and can mean anything from a new cross, something harvested oversees (illegally), to "rarer than a dandelion" Check it out carefully. There are a few sellers on there I really like but some I've come across are horrible!

You know, what's "rare" in the US may be very common in Manila, and vice versa. Are you looking for plants that are just rare in general? I have a book that lists the frequency/rarity of a plant in its native range(mostly SE Asia), and I've found that plants that are sold as "rare" in the US are actually common in SE Asia. And some plants that are listed as rare or very rare are not protected under CITES.
