I have tried to pollinate phals and cattleyas and soon after the flowers will wilt and ovules will be swollen. However, swollen ovule will go brown shortly after and the spike will die off...

But be very very careful when you re-pot, any damage to the green tips will cause the roots to stop growing and they are not long enough to branch new tips.

Leave the rest for the plant to reabsorb nutrients from leaves. The orchid is most likely resource managing due to root loss....but keep an eye...
