Repotting cats with lots of air roots

Hello OB,

What do you recommend in this kind of situation? I have several cattleyas that needed to be repotted, some of those had so much air root all over the place, I don't wanna cut them.

As I went over the media, some bark had been soo old its mushy. Plant overall is in great shape, plus I get to use the broke clay pieces to fill up the bottom...

in January I ended up cutting the 3rd affected backbulb - which was still half green here in the pictures. The brownish coloring did spread pretty quickly and soon the leaf turned yellow...
