I cover the hole with a bit of plastic wrap. It keeps the humidity very high. From my understanding, the humidity has to be high or the flower wont take.

Ok, this is technically not a beginner orchid but I have been finding it super easy to grow. Leave it in the bowl, keep it wet/moist and keep the light medium to low... love it! I don't fuss with it...
