Cattleya jenmanii var. orlata 'Serra Negra'
Divisions of this clone has been sold by a nursery in Manaus as variety rubra, but it actually is not . Petals and sepals are far clearer than what a rubra labiate should be. The solid lip may be the reason for the mess, but the presence of only the dark lip is not enough to characterize the variety rubra, petals and sepals also need to be of a dark reddish lavender. The second photo shows it side by side with a true rubra labiata, just for comparison.

It is still quite nice!

Both are pretty. This clone of Cattleya jenmanii is really attractive.
|
Both are nice. Thanks for the comparison. Often definitions like dark red or solid mean nothing unless you have something to compare it to. A reference point is needed, thanks for doing that.

Very pretty orchids! I love the fragrance of C. jenmanii.
|
There's a big difference between the two so they must be hard to mix up if you know exactly what rubra means. Nice to see them side by side.
|
Good to see them both side to side. Clearly a difference when seen together. Both really pretty though.
|
Both are stunning.
Which is considered the more uncommon or rare form? |
Beautiful flowers and photos, as usual. Thanks Mauro.
