i was told these were Chinese Hardy Orchids but i have been better informed now....enjoy

Not Bletilla striata. (Flower shape different though leaves look similar, and I think B. striata is a spring/summer bloomer) Maybe Spathoglottis? Whatever it is, love those terrestrial Floridian volunteers!

hmmm, interesting- i was told they were Chinese Hardy Orchid and this was the sci name i found.

did i Internet wrong or do you think i was told the wrong thing initially?

after doing more research it is DEF a spathoglottis of some kind...i'll edit the title

"Chinese Hardy Orchid" probably does translate to Bletilla strata... just doesn't apply to that particular plant.

striata means "striated," referring to the leaves, which are ribbed. it just happens that the Bletilla striata leaves look very similar to the Spathoglottis leaves. :)

don't worry, Spathoglottis, like Bletilla, is a terrestrial genus and will do wonderfully outdoors in Florida. your particular Spathoglottis resembles a Spathoglottis plicata.
