I ordered this orchid last January but because of the weather where I was getting it from was below 32 degrees for several months they nor I wanted it shipped until it warmed up, so I did not receive until March. I was not expecting this to flower so soon but I am not at all upset that he has. I noticed the spike that is in the first picture when it was the size of a green pea and did not think about taking pictures of its growth rate until this picture was taken, next time I will cause it was interesting to watch this one grow, the second picture is when it opened. So far I can not detect an odor, I understand they are suppose to stink.

I love this plant! A local grower had one in bloom a while back, it does have an odor, but it wasn't as horrible as I imagined. While, I didn't think it was that bad my husband thought it was terrible and had to leave the area where the plant was located. 😀

Jealous!

Very neat!

Super cool. I think this one stinks only strongly when you get close. I kind of want one now!

Daethen 05-14-2015 09:31 PM

Gorgeous and I am so jealous. I had finally acquired one of these and then I had the heat failure in the greenhouse. RIP to mine.

Awesomely envious!
Do you have a full plant shot? These can be so magnificent!
Currently, my wife won't let me have one, as she'd read about the smell...

Trol,
Full plant picture taken shortly after I got it. Since this picture besides the flower I have had another leaf grow, it's about 2 feet long now.

I got mine this August when it was in bloom and once I put it in the greenhouse and was the bright light it really gave off a smell and in the mornings the greenhouse was pretty stinky. Now it has 3 new growths and I need to repot it. What is yours growing in? Mine's in rock wool.

I mounted mine on a big piece of cedar board with spaghnum moss, it has since started a new pb which now is over a foot long

Thanks, I hope you can get one at some point and time I think they are well worth the money. Since this post I have had another pb grow so I am hoping that I might have two blooms next season.

Hausermann's has smaller ones now. Around $10 I seem to recall. I think they're on the New Arrivals page. You're welcome.

FrFrancis 01-26-2016 07:50 PM

I have seen Marlow's advertising bigger ones. Too bad you aren't in St. Louis, I would give you a division of mine.

estación seca 01-26-2016 08:52 PM

Thanks. I have the plant but realize others want it too.

Dezherae17 01-26-2016 11:09 PM

I can't wait to acquire my own I love the flowers but the bulbs creep me out when they're dehydrated that's y I'll have to keep it moist and humid :)

No-Pro-mwa 02-15-2016 11:20 AM

It is kinda cool looking, but I'm passin for now. If I was some where I could keep it outside then I would consider it. But in the house?? My dogs would probably eat it.

Thanks for thinking of me Francis :waving:waving

I have noticed recently when looking that the prices are coming down, I would guess more people are growing them and the demand is down, good way to get one now if you don't already have one, much cheaper!

Tindomul 10-28-2016 02:22 PM

The buds developed fast. What a beauty!!!! For those that hate the smell, just remind them its ok. It's just a plant, not bacteria.
