Kefersteinia pulchella - any experience? I can’t find out much
 

I have this plant in SH and it was outside but it was not doing well. I brought it inside and I wanted to know if there was anyone who has any advice on it

I look up all species in IOSPE. In this case it says it's cool growing.

this was added to an order a while back bc the vendor felt one of the plants i did order was subpar- i just potted her up and figured i would get back to it and it just always seemed like it was juuuust about to take off growing but never did....at least now i know it bc i was cooking it

I don't think that it is all that cool, more intermediate. Bolivia at 1100 m. But south Florida may be a bit too warm.

Well that is better news for my prospects of her doing okay inside.

Probably a good idea. My best guess for that elevation and latitude: Low temperatures should be above 50 deg F (no problem there), best if highs are below 85 deg F (and without night cooling, slightly lower daytime highs would be even better)

so 71-75 year round should be a win. based on the location i will grow it in the bathroom so the humidity is better

i have four or five other orchids that are like this one in that i got them as a replacement or a gift or something and i don't know a darn thing about them...

my new project is to compile a list of the plants i have (and maybe number them for a real pretend scientific analysis) and in so doing i hope to educate myself more about ALL of them, especially the ones i don't know at all LOL

IOSPE is a great place to start. Ignore the icons...they are very inaccurate. Look at the text, that describes habitats. I look at it from a little different viewpoint, I'm trying to figure out what I can get away with outdoors, so on the equator in south America, I'm pushing it below about 1200 m, a little higher is better. The "intermediate" range is around 800 or 900 m to maybe 1100 m or a little more. Lower, and it's tropical.

These are just very rough estimates, rules of thumb that help me decide, at a show, whether or not to buy something.
I mention South America as a benchmark,those elevation ranges work well for me in figuring out what to grow where. Asian and Pacific island orchids don't seem to be as forgiving - I think higher humidity, and the lows not quite so low. Madagascar, probably because of weather patterns, seems to have the "cooler" region start at significantly lower elevations... the capitol, Antananarivo, is only about 1200 m but gets down to freezing in winter. Which is great, because a lot of Angraecoids grow very well for me outside.

I struggle to decider the weather patterns of the places when I am doing exactly what you said and you just broke it down in two paragraphs!!

Thanks! This rather crude approach works for me, your results may be different. For me, the insights developed over a long time... and a mix of successes and failures, as well as a chance to visit some of these areas and experience at least a brief moment of the climate. My "Aha!" moment was walking into the living room of the owner of Ecuagenera (Pepe Portilla) and seeing a bunch of large, happy standard Cymbidiums. Since I know a thing or two about Cymbidiums, this told me volumes about potential similarities between climate at home and at 8000 ft in Ecuador)
