Elliot, Great to see you back!! Though, sorry to hear about your plant!
I didn't think it was possible to over water a mounted plant - but I learn something new everyday!!
What is your humidity at the moment? If the plant only has one root and still has lots of leaves, it will be losing a lot of water through the leaves (especially if the air is on the dry side) and the root may not be able to take up as much water as the plant needs. The good news is that this situation should trigger the plant to grow more roots!! But, we need to make sure it has the energy and 'life' to do that.
Have you been feeding the plant? With what/how often/what dosage? What type of water do you use (tap, rainwater, RO)? How often were you watering it? I mist my mounted plants once a day (sometimes twice if its warm and dry) and soak them once a week.
