Reppoting an unruly Cattlianthe

I've posted about this plant before, also about the repotting subject, but now that new roots are starting to show I need your sugestions about repotting.
The problem is that this plant do whatever it wants (they all do, don't they?:D).
Trying to make it up straight didn't work and it made things even worse.
To simply repot it in a bigger pot will cause the new growths to be buried.
I have considered to divide it but I'm not sure if it will solve my problem.
This is in the same pot that it was when I bought it, almost 3 years ago. Since it was doing great (and still is) I decided to keep it in there. Probably the root system inside the pot is dead, being the plant supported by the hanging roots.

It seems to be an older plant because it has two thick "trunks", each one with a cut, probably from previous divisions.

Sugestions on how to repot (or waht to do) will be welcome.

Rbarata, I have a similar plant. It was so unruly that I knicknaned it "Mr Roots." I finally put it in a square cedar basket. Now it is free to ramble as it chooses!

The basket was also sugested by Roberta in the last posts about in the other thread but my main issue now are the new growths growing downwards.
Using a baskets poses the same problem as using a pot: they will be under the medium.

If you set the plant in a basket with a medium like very large bark, volcanic cinder or wine cork, it won't matter where growths go.

Just don't put that plant anywhere near your bed, or those roots might grab you in the night.

You could try potting in just the lower 1/3 to 1/4 of a tall container, such as:

*** Edit: well, apparently Wayfair objects to posting a link to their flower pot, hence the "Access Denied". So, I deleted the link ***

The tall container's sides should only allow growths to go up, rather than sideways.

Some Cattleya plants just have a climbing and naturally unruly habit.
