Dendrobium Lori's Star need growing tips
Hello,
Bought this lovely Dendrobium Lori's Star from orchid show but I need all the information you can give me about this guy. should I repot or not? http://www.orchidboard.com/community...4&d=1486907401 |
When you see new growth - and especially new roots -starting, repotting would certainly be useful. I would suggest a terra cotta clay pot (for the weight), preferably the low form "fern pot". Don't over-pot (you don't want a lot of empty space). For such a tall plant, you will want to stake it for stability - it is important that a newly repotted plant not wobble, or the new roots won't be able to grab on in their new environment.
You don't say where you live. But looking at the parentage of this plant, it should be fine outside in the spring, once night temperatures are above about 55 deg F (13 deg C) |
thank you, I live in new England, there are buds on plant I might try to repot next week
I got one more nice lc. Bryan wheeler 'grandson' cattleya ( for $20)from that same show |
If you have buds, it would be better to wait until after it blooms, disturbing it at this point may cause you to lose the blooms. In the meantime, you can sit the pot in a larger heavy pot just to hold it up.
When you do repot, if it is in sphagnum moss, small bark would be better. But it may be a month or six weeks before you're ready for that. |
