:wavingAnother first for me (2nd Tolumnia in a week), a micro-miniature blooming size Tolumnia lucayana pink var. At first glance I believe this plant to be healthy even without experience. It's so so tiny!

Okay, well now I'm sad. Just discovered tiny black round bugs (like beetles) on my other NEW Tolumnia.
Then I turn to look at this guy (both sitting on windowsill in other room cuz they all new, about foot or so apart) and there's a bunch of SUPER tiny grayish bugs crawling on the pot. These look like they could be mites to me. Not so happy... I just watered everybody. |
How round are they? I have little gray bugs all over my orchids and Nepenthes, and they're just harmless springtails. They're a bit more oval. It could be nothing!!
Neem oil is my go-to pesticide, even if it smells kinda funky. |
If they're on the pot when you water then I bet they're springtails...which generally don't damage plants but I have noticed that occasionally they will munch on Tolumnia roots... the easiest way to get rid of them is to soak the whole pot and plant in water...after a couple minutes they are all floating on the surface and you can just pour them off.

The small round black (shiny) bugs on Tolu. Buck Hollow are still crawling after being sprayed with Bayer Advanced Natria & actually I just found couple hours after spraying on Tolu. lucayana. They look like so: (not my picture, found online but that's them) Oh yeah & when I got this there was a small white round thing stuck on the leaf, I thought it was scale. I got a q-tip picked it off and its underside was basically hollow so I thought wasn't scale insect but it did leave white/bleached spot where it sat on leaf. Now I'm thinking these are a black form of scale?
Attachment 97689 The other bugs on the lucayana are much smaller than the springtails I just had on my Phal a week or so ago (long before I had these). They weren't quite as long looking. I wish they were/are springtails. They were scurrying along. Thanks. |
