Clivia Budding Up

I bought this Clivia last spring not really knowing anything about them. Found out that they need a dry, cold winter dormant period to set buds. So I stuck it outside and gave it no water from the end of November to the end of January. Mind, temperatures here haven't fallen much below freezing all winter. It wouldn't have tolerated much colder.

So anyway, I brought it in last week and gave it a little water. Found this popping up yesterday outta nowhere! And there's another one right behind it! I'm gonna be a bit bold here and go ahead and say mission accomplished!

what colour did you buy ? I love the yellow, but orange is also great.

It's kindof a reddish orange. The yellow ones are very nice, I will be on the lookout for one.

Awesome!

Wonderful. It'll be quite a sight once the second flower stalk emerges.

Congrats1 I had one I had raised from seed years and years ago. Finally got rid of it because I could never get it to bloom -- apt culture just did not lend itself to the necessary conditions for blooming it seems.

The seeds are actually quite interesting, IMO. They are literally translucent despite being the size of a chickpea.

Yeah, you have imitated the South African winter season.

Would you believe these things are up and blooming just three weeks later? A welcome change from the slowness of orchids :)

I love these plants! My aunt had them and they got really big over the years.

You got a nice large plant I think.

I would love to have a yellow flowering one if I had a cold room. oh, well...
