Very pretty Clivia! Good growing! :goodjob

My Clivia miniata 'Solomone Yellow' was in bloom this February too, and is now slowly done with the blooms..got some offsets forming, so the plant must be redirecting its energy to the babies.

I loved that thing! Now that I've moved, I've gotten another one, but it is a small plant. I gave it the cold treatment but no flowers, maybe it's too young.

When I was trying to learn more about Clivia, I have often read about counting the leaves to gauge if the plant is mature enough to bloom. My clivia that bloomed had 9 leaves and after the dry rest it was quick to slowly start forming more leaves, and the best surprise the bloom stalk later.

I also got another one, this one's tag says it is an orange clivia, has 12 leaves to start, I guess was kept too wet at the nursery, during repot, roots are okay but not as okay as the yellow clivia I had. Anyways, will just care for it and see how it goes.

You have given me hope!!! Mine has 9 or 10 leaves too and is resuming growth after I broke its dormancy at the beginning of February...maybe it will bloom after all?

Yeah, maybe it will try! Do you notice if the neck of the stem seems to be getting wider? I noticed that when I moved it indoors after the cool dry rest. I thought it was just gearing for more leaves, since there was a new leaf growing too.

Then after about a week or so, I saw the bloomstalk at the center.

One year later! I put the Clivia through three full months of cool and dry. Started watering last week, and woohoo! First sign of a bloom stalk today! Happy dance!!

Way to grow. I tossed mine in the garage , sans water, early Dec and only just brought it out. It's in bud too. Don't forget to post pics when the blooms opens

It's the low temperatures, not the drying out, that triggers blooming. They grow and bloom well in Los Angeles gardens exposed to winter rain. 50F for a few weeks is low enough.

Then I'll add for the record that mine was probably closer to 60 degrees for 3 months. This was however in sharp contrast to a summer of 85 and higher.

Congrats Cambria! Looking forward to seeing the bloom photos! My Solomone yellow is busy with its babies, while noid orange - I gave this one a cool rest in Dec, is still quiet, but the leaves are lush and green, still better to see than totally dormant leafless plants.:)
