Should I repot a Cymbidium now?

I just bought my first Cymbidium and it was literally cracking open its plastic pot. It looks very healthy and has 3 large pseudobulbs with leaves and a little brown back bulb. It easily slipped out of the pot, so I could see it has a good root system, but it's all compacted into that little square.

What I did was just use scissors to cut open the corners of the plastic pot and put it in a slightly larger clay pot and just filled in around it.

I ordered a tall clay Cymbidium pot for it (spent way too much but it looks beautiful), and I'm wondering if I should replant it in that when I get the pot or is it a bad time. I've read elsewhere they should be repotted in the spring after they flower but this one shows no signs of flowering yet.

If I do repot, can just soak the roots in warm water to make them pliable to distribute them down the tall pot?

Thanks

I'd wait for new growth in spring.
If it has a large root mass, cut off the bottom quarter to third of it.

I do soak mine to help loosen roots, and use a chopstick to work into the mass, wiggling it to loosen things up.

This can all take some time, so do it when you will have some time for it.

DO NOT cut the roots OR DIVIDE NOW, especially if you are in cold, freezing climates like New York! Now that you have temporarily put it into a larger pot, be VERY careful not to over water it in the middle or you will just rot out the roots.
