Just bought a villosum
2 Attachment(s)
Fri I got my first mail order and because it was so cheap I got a villosum in a 2" pot. It only cost me $5.00 so I had to give it a try. It has 2 plants in it and seems to be healthy. It was a little dry when it got hear but I watered it and it perked right up.
Any thing special I should know about it. I have Dyna-Gro orchid- pro 7-8-6 that I mix 1/2 tea in a Gal of water with 1/2 tea of Pro-Tekt mixed in. Is this ok or do I need to mix it weaker. I have been using rain water but lately I have put a little well water also because I know my rain water isn't going to last all winter. I just ordered Neptunes fish and seaweed fert and also have gotten some new KLN. Should be hear next week. Here's my baby |
Goodness looks like I need some lotion on those hands. :blushing:

Wow~ where did you buy that plant from???
I'm not that crazy about villosum, but I've seen some great villosum flowers and would have bought one for $5. It looks like it will bloom any time now given the size. Your plant looks really healthy too! congrats!!! :) It is a tropical species, so keep it warm and bright (not in the sun bright, of course) and it will do great for you making clumps over the years. As far as feeding, I think less is more. I never did any regular feeding in the past years, maybe a couple of times during the summer and that's it. Things grew and bloomed nicely for me. I think good watering is very important. Feeding might be beneficial if done right, but remember, too much will kill. ;) I'm serious! By the way, I wanted to try the naptune seaweed and fish stuff, but after I smelled the content of the bottles, it is definitely not for indoor culture to say the least. lol |
Congrats on your buy. As far as neptunes fish and seaweed fert. go I would only use 1/4 the amount as recommended on the bottle. I use it myself and yes it does smell, with that being said I only use 1/4 the amount and I have no problems smelling fish and seaweed in the house.

NYC I got it from Hausermann. I have only seen pic's of it but for $5.00 that's what i thought. Maybe not my dream orchid but what the h---. I hope the poor thing will not be in trouble as my house is not the warmest in the winter. I guess if I have to with some I can put them on my plant heating mat.
Maybe it looks bigger than it is as it is kind of tiny it's in a 2" by 2" pot. The one growth is about 7" from the top of the pot. The second one is very tiny. Would it bloom this small? I am kind of a random feeder myself and I do need to figure out how to know which ones I have feed last ans so on. Seems so complicated. 17 I will see when I get it I may try it as you said thanks. I can open up the house and get the smell out this time of year anyway. I also live with 4 dogs so am use to some smell and I also have allergies so my sniffer is not that good. I'm thinking I will need to get some kelp from Ray and I can use this on my outside plants. |
It looks like a very healthy plant and a great deal for $5. It'll need to grow a bit before blooming, but the varnished look to the flower is very cool. When I was growing under lights my growing room was about 55-60° F in the winter and had no problem blooming it. I'm not familiar with any of the fertilizers you mentioned, but any should be applied at 1/2 strength or less for Paphs.

Nice choice. Its a happy healthy plant. You were given good advice regarding fertilizer and culture....I specifically love the brown fella sleeping on the leather sofa...."beautiful hands are those that do"=old proverb....but if you feel you need lotion then by all means put some on....

Bud you made me laugh but yes I think I need some lotion on those baby's. Ok then I will mix the fert 1/4 tea in a gal of water. And I was told on my Catt thread not to use the Pro-Tekt so maybe I will not use it on any of them. When I got it I was told it would help to keep them hydrated.
Yes one of my couch potatoes, that's my Bullmastiff Marlo she is not very far from me ever. paphluvr that is nice to know because it can get that cold in my house when the wind is howling at times. We will see. |
BTW- It's not 2 plants in a pot, it's a 2 growth plant in a pot.
