Prosthechea/Encyclia cochleata in bloom at last :)

I've had some problems with this one over the years. It struggled with the roots for years, then last time it tried to bloom the flowers and spike quickly died. It took a long time (over a year) before I realized it had mites :((

I grow it in my variant on S/H which basically means a standard pot in a cache pot and a reservoir of water maintained in the cache pot. I water by pouring water fast into it and replacing the water in the cache pot.

Photos taken a couple of days ago, it's since opened two more flowers (one on each spike) and has 4 on one spike and 2 on the other. However the oldest flower is yellowing and I think will drop soon. Spike looks like there are more buds to come though :)

So pretty, I'm actually driving to St. Petes on Friday to get one also, not so easy to find here in Florida, even it seems like they do great here:-)) Can't wait to have one.

where i live, it is considered weed. how big is the flower RosieC, there seems to be different flower sizes , yours looks like to be Big ones, these plants for me have been blooming flower after flower since like 3 months ago, and it just keeps making more buds.

get ready for a very VERY long lasting Blooming season on that one :)

beautiful plant! easy to grow.

Thanks everyone,

palm521, the flowers are about 8cm/3" from the top of the lip to the bottom of the petals/sepals. I'm not sure how that compares, however I forgot to say above that this is a cultivar called 'Green Giant' not sure if that indicates it's a larger flower size or not (maybe it relates to p-bulb size :dunno:)

Great to see all the effort paid off with lots of blooms.
