My mini-orchid heaven
Hi everyone,
I am a member for a few days now and I have posted enough to post photos, so now it is time to reveal my orchidarium. It looks like I listed on the other post are plants you have yet to own. I think the ones I named are absolute gems.

I love it! That truly is Orchid heaven. How large is the enclosure and what kind of lighting do you use?

As for the lighting, I'm using a 100cm Arcadia T8. I lost the packaging, but it was some plant growth enhancing bulb putting out around 4500K. As far as I understand, that's allright-ish as I'm supposed to reach 5000K...right? :P |
That's a decent sized growing space. There's definitely room for many more minis! :D I'm fairly sure 4500K should be okay. I have heard of people growing orchids just fine under 3000K bulbs.

Nice Job! How long has it been set up? What temperature do you keep it at & do you use misting?

The picture was taken when it was set up for one week I think! A lot was added since then, more orchids, mosses, Jati-wood, fish and even a crab, I will post some more pictures soon. It is more or less 22°C, we do not have temperature control it is room temperature. We do have a misting system, it's a Mist King with 4 nozzles. We don't have doors yet so we're spraying by hand for the moment but when it's finished the system will go off twice a day for one minute and a half. Greets Davina |
Fish & crab- cool! You must have changed it alot - i cant wait for photos. How did you plant the moss - straight into the substrate or did you crumble it & wait for it to take root?

As for the moss, I just planted them quite easy. I soaked the mosses that I collected from the woods for a day in hot water to remove dirt and bugs, then I just put them in the tank. Some of the mosses grow on the waterfall and others grow on the wall (epiweb) on places where it is really wet. Here's a list of my newest plants: Pleurothallis macroblepharis Barbosella cucullata Ornithocephalus gladiatus Zygostates grandiflora Dendrobium lichenastrum Lepanthes Noid Bulbophyllum Noid Mediocalcar decoratum And the pictures: The whole terrarium http://www.orchidboard.com/community...0-dsc08946.jpg The aquarium http://www.orchidboard.com/community...1-dsc08947.jpg The new pieces of Jati-wood (I'm going to keep on adding them to fill up the terrarium) http://www.orchidboard.com/community...9-dsc08938.jpg My crab (just because I really like him) http://www.orchidboard.com/community...10008-crab.jpg A bit of moss http://www.orchidboard.com/community...5-dsc08957.jpg The moss is really starting to grow (I placed this moss end of April) http://www.orchidboard.com/community...2-dsc08952.jpg Star moss on the waterfall http://www.orchidboard.com/community...4-dsc08956.jpg So that's it for now Greets Davina |
I love it! Well done. It's great watching things grow in.
