Claire for Singapore
Hi All.
I came across Orchid Board while searching for information on caring for my 2 new orchids. I have a NOID mini dendrobium and a NOID phal. In the past, I've had phals but everyone in the family seemed to love them all to death. I am originally from Melbourne, Australia but have moved to Singapore for goodness knows how many years now. I've recently picked up my two new orchids and have made it my mission to actually keep them alive. Unfortunately I don't believe I have enough lighting for my mini dend. so he might be finding a new home else where (I only have northern windows in my apartment). My phal was quickly repotted from spagnum to Hydroleca as the high humidity I have makes the stuff stay damp forever. I have to say that the books I've read and the information I've read throughout the internet have all paled in comparison to the information I can get here so I'm very glad to have come across OB. :D |
Welcome to OB Claire! Hope that we will be hearing a lot from you in days to come! Also hope that you enjoy learning and seeing the great blooms and orchids that everyone shares here as much as I do!

Hi Terracotta,
Thanks for the welcome! I get a sneaking suspicion that my collection of phals shall be increasing soon and I will definitely have lots of questions to ask. It seems like there isn't as much information on orchid culture in tropical countries available...or maybe it's just assumed that they just grow since we are in the region they orginated from. |
Hello and welcome aboard!!!

If you are like the rest of us, the increase in orchids isn't a suspicion but destiny!

Welcome. Make sure to not visit the photo sections as you will want more!

Haha, well living in Singapore and I have a lot of access to dedicated growers and labs so there are plenty of choices at my fingertips. It doesn't help that I live in ideal conditions either. I see myself installing racks at my windows and giving up my windows for a collection. Addictions, addictions.

It is very insidious, Claire. Beware!
Kind of like eating potato chips...if one is good, well, then 50 cannot be bad. Oh yes... "Well, I have enough of that type that blooms at such and such a time, so I think I should also have this other type that blooms at this other time. You know, just because I might just want to see a pretty bloom." And how about the ever popular "Perhaps I should try a miniature, or something fragrant, or something miniature and fragrant. Do you see where I am going with this? Seriously, though, I think that you will really enjoy seeing all the different orchids that people grow and the different ways they grow them, and you will be so amazed and psyched to try something different yourself. Believe me...the windowsills were just the beginning for me. Have fun! |
