Phal Gigantea (crystelle x Krulls ruby)
I got this plant a few months ago and immediately mistreated it. It seemed like the thing to do :( however, I did manage to correct my ways and began giving this plant something it must has enjoyed because I never lost it and though I lost a lot of roots, I managed to keep many too. It lives 8 inches under t8 lamps with a highly reflective reflector (Mylar) on a heat mat in a grow area that. Maintains a 80% rh or more, depending on the time of day. It has two terra pots under its massive leaves so they don't break on the spine from flexing.

Krull and smith sold this plant to me and I thought I was going to get a different cross, however they sent this one and I consider it a huge upgrade as crystelle is a plant that bears very dark red markings on its blooms. Hoping for something pretty amazing though this is a seedlings so you never know. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/25/e8yjeje3.jpg The new budding root is difficult to see but since this pic was taken its very nearly touching the moss. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/25/ehaserap.jpg And then there is the little initial hair of a new phal leaf... Since taking this photos, its really begun to take off. It's easily double what you see now, which for a gig isn't saying much as it has a very long way to go! |

Omg if it spiked I'd pass out. No kidding that would be amazing. Thanks for looking all!

that is not a specie gigantea; its a hybrid so....that is not a seedling....it is blooming sized plant by the way the picture is showing me the ratio proportion of your hand to the plant....plus, you have four large healthy leaves that will give enough energy for a spike....
the dry roots will recover, fatten and it is providing you with new ones....whatever you are doing is working now....just dont neglect it again.... |
Bud, how can you tell that it is not a species P. gigantea from the photo? Krull Smith lists it as a species.
|
It is a species, a seedling of the cross Crystelle x Krulls Ruby, two Giganteas.

I'd be inclined to go with Krull-Smith says. Frank knows more about gigantea that anyone else will ever learn.
Cheers. Jim |
Its a beautiful looking plant - I wonder if its large enough to bloom this year :scratchhead:
