Hi from the Pacific West Coast, Canada

Just a short Intro to say Hello to everyone in this Forum. I'm joining because I just added 2 more orchids to my collection of 2 phals. A 100% increase in my collection must mean something although I realize I only have a tiny starter collection. My phals are 11 and 7 years old and have bloomed several times. However, since they're the easiest orchids, I'm nervous about my new Neofinetia wind orchid which cost my husband quite a bit and my other new orchid, an Oncidium sharry baby, which has some problems.
I grew up in Malaysia amidst some beautiful tropical varieties but am now living on the Pacific West Coast. Looking forward to reading & posting in the Forums.

Hi there! Welcome to Orchid Board! Glad to have you here. You should be able to find more information here on your new Neo, as several members grow this plant. Just do a search and it should return the relevant threads.

I know that quite a few here also have Onc. Sharry Baby, so if there are any specific questions you have about that one, please feel free to ask! What are the problems you are seeing?

Again, welcome! And look forward to hearing more about your (growing) collection! If you have any photos of your orchids, we'd love to see them!

Welcome to the Orchid Board Tropical Roots. I like that name. What kind of problems are you having with your Sharry Baby?

Tropical Roots 10-04-2007 09:39 PM

Thanks so much for the warm welcome. My new Onc. Sharry Baby has a few leaves with black spots on them. These are a lot larger than the pin-sized spots that I've read on some websites as sun freckles. There are a couple of leaves with these too. I cut the most affected leaf off just in case it's fungus. The other leaf on the same node also has these spots. I was assured by the vendor that it was due to cold water splashing on the leaves. Would be very grateful for your opinion.
