Lovely blooms! I especially like the pink-orange vanda. What is that growing/drooping down in the vanda basket? It looks like roots and I've seen it before somewhere at a show...

Nastia...That is a type of tillandsia, commonly known as Spanish Moss. It grows wild and rampant in Florida, and it favors the limbs of oak trees. I was in need of something to boost and briefly retain more moisture on my bare root specimens, so I harvested a few handfulls from a woodsy vacant lot. It looked healthy, but before draping it on my plants it was treated with multiple treatments of an insecticide/funguscide. The moss has adapted well to the shadehouse and I give it frequent haircuts to keep it under control. |

Gorgeous blooms! I really like the idea of using Spanish Moss to drape the bare root plants. It gives it a very natural look.
