I must be out of my mind!!!

It's official, I've joined all of you in the craze!!

I have no more room for any more orchids, I know I will be receiving at least 2 orchids at this years Orchid Society Christmas Dinner, but I still went ahead and bought still yet ANOTHER orchid. And not just any orchid, but a Phalaenopsis gigantea!!

Am I completely crazy or what, lol...

It's not just a "run out of room" thing for me, it's also a "run out of time to take proper care of them" thing. I want it to be a pleasure, not a burden.ginnibug

     For a while I was thinking it was going to be a couple minis, but Phal. gigantea?!?! Yeah, that is crazyness!

camille1585 12-05-2011 08:47 AM

Of all the space saving orchids you could get you deceide to get Phal gigantea??!? And this after starting a thread to complain about the lack of space?? Yes, you are certifiably insane (like many of us here)

There's ALWAYS room for more.

I like to think of it as the "or what" category !!!! :wow :congrats:

Hopefully you only bought a smaller seedling and not a fully mature one (though normally I'd recommend the exact opposite). Otherwise, you're sheer lack of space will have to be solved by stacking them on top of the leaves of the lower levels

I feel precisely the same way. I am constantly reevaluating which orchids in my collection I like the most, working my way down to least favorites (I do really like even my least favs). This way, in the event that I must make room for something more of a priority, I know which plants I may want to give away or trade. :) And it seems like the amount of orchids that can fit in my growing space is just about right for the time I want to spend caring for them. But just one or two more couldn't hurt, right? Lol.

I'm at the same stage but for me the space thing is because all my "cute little plants" are doing their best to be full grown all at the same time !!! My collection has always varied from about 140 to 170 plants but now the variance is a lot less and is hovering around 150 (147 right now, 1 in the mail) and I'm working it downward as best I can !

Yep. I've had more than what I've got right now. If I break it up into groups it's not so bad, but on those occasional days where it seems everything needs watering all at one time that can be a bit sucky. I'm CERTAIN at some point I'll have a larger # of plants; but for now I just have too much going on. I've got two jobs,a house, animals(four and two legged),+ a husband (really he's added in w/ the animals). I'm just kinda slammed for time. :( I'm lucky if I get on the computer once a day.ginnibug

At least Phal gigantea grows mad slow.

It also takes it's sweet time getting to blooming size.
