Maria's Redlands 2011 purchases...(picture heavy)
I took off work on Friday; was there at 9:00am sharp. Didn't get home until 4pm. I went back today for a couple of supplies, a gift orchid, and two more orchids for myself (an Epidendrum cross from Cal-orchid and a Dendrobium Oriental Smile from Carib plants.) Did not take a picture of those.
This year I concentrated on Myrmecophila, Laelia and a couple of other species. I was pleased. I DEFINITELY pays to go the first day I met Ysa and met up with Susie!!! Anyhow, here are the pictures. This is Schomburgkia superbiens var. alba x Myrmecophila brysiana. It's in spike. from Plantio La Orquidea: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3113/...9037e074_b.jpg These are close-ups. The plant is HUGE. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3635/...b59232c3_b.jpg As you can see, the plant is in spike: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2152/...28e8fc0e_b.jpg This is Myrmecophila brysiana 'Isla Providencia' x Cattleya perceveliana 'El Hatillo', also from Plantio La Orquidea. The plant is also HUGE: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3150/...8cf36c7f_b.jpg These are close-ups of the blooms and the plant, respectively: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2010/...9687a86a_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3039/...c83a9070_b.jpg This is Schomburgkia? undulata from Plantio La Orquidea: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2432/...ac1de087_b.jpg This is Laelia lyonsii from Hamlyn Orchids: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2570/...95a71eb4_b.jpg This is Myrmecophila brysiana 'Orange Belle' from Hamlyn Orchids: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3023/...d78b2eec_b.jpg |
....con't
This is Myrmecophila Keith Goldson from Hamlyn Orchids. I've no idea what the blooms look like, but I took a chance:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3313/...b61f313f_b.jpg These three are from Kogachi Orchids. They are terete-leafed vandas and I've wanted to try these for a long time. They were super inexpensive. These two are Vanda Ruby Prince http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2662/...e1bde8f3_b.jpg This is Vanda Diana (it's an alba) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3316/...81e7014c_b.jpg This is Vanda Miss Joaquim var. alba from Kawamoto Orchids: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3663/...f4d4c7ed_b.jpg This is a group shot. The bad boy in the back is Grammatophyllum scriptum 'Early Riser' x sib from Kawamoto Orchids Also included are: Brassavola David Sander; Chysis laevis; Blc. Phu Lai 'La Orquidea' x Brassavola cucullata and Potinara Orange Rocket x Schomburkgia undulata from Plantio La Orquidea http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3040/...39d27ec9_b.jpg These are the spikes from my Dendrobium moschatum var. coloratum from Featherstone Orchids. This bad boy was flopping around all over. It's huge. There are more spikes/buds but I only photographed a couple: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3573/...ca4a011d_b.jpg I had lots of fun. Now the work begins to get these up to snuff. I hope you all enjoyed the photos of my purchases. |
Wow, great haul. What massive roots on some of those at the top!
|
Nice group of orchids. I love those long spikes and massive roots. I agree with you that friday is the best day to go. More orchids and less people.
|
Great haul, Maria!

Nice choice of 'chids Maria! I sure can't wait to see bloom pictures of all of them! I'm also jealous of the Brassavola David Sander....I've been after a nice one of these for a while....and I won't buy it from Bill Asia...lol. Mind sharing who you bought it from?

I bought it from Plantio La Orquidea. I've also seen it for a higher price at orchids.com. I've not bought anything from Orchids.com, but I can give my stamp of approval for Plantio la Orquidea. They are online, but their entire stock is not on their webpage. They have VERY nice crosses. I spent 1/2 of my budget there. :) |

I was looking forward to the show for the entire year, and so I bought until my heart was content. :) |
