Who should go out?
So it's well past the last frost, and I've begun thinking of moving some of my collection out onto my patio for the summer.
I already have an idea of who will like it outside in Denver, but, of course, I want to get y'alls approval first. Denver (lakewood) temps/humidity: Daytime 70-90, nighttime 60s Humidity gets to the 60%ish at night, 20-30% daytime. Growing areas available: 1. On a baker's rack with early-late morning sun. 2. Hanging on a north-facing wall with bright indirect light. 3. Under an umbrella with somewhat bright shade. Thoughts -Laelia anceps in area 1, morning sun. (it's already used to strong sun from south and west windows.) -C. intermedia in any area, not sure which- I suspect 2 or 3. -Epid. ibaguense starting in area 1, then possibly to stronger sun (used to very strong southern/western light) -I have two Cattleya hybrids which I am not sure about. --Pot. Samantha Duncan 'Paradise' --C. Little Dipper x Slc. Sierra Doll (alot of C. walkeriana in there) Would either of those like being outside? I know I've asked similar questions to these, I appreciate your opinions on my decisions now. |
i have my laelia anceps outside, its about the same as yor area #1 but it gets splotchy sun

:) Yeah, I've learned that they do well out there. I hear you're getting a reed-stem epi. That will do great next to your L. anceps- perhaps with slightly stronger light.
|
I would put them all out. Basically give them as bright a light as you can, without burning of course, for as long as you can. You will get better growth and blooming in return.

I agree, everything you listed can go outside. Catts like spending the summer outdoors!

Suh-weet!
Still pretty nervous about pests getting to them. evil buggers. |
Anyone know if the Bayer Rose and Flower systemic insect spray is safe for orchids? Thinking of doing a preventitive spray.

i talked to the seller, and bargained a bit. i got her sown to 4 plants for $6 plus shipping, and then she added one more plants so thats 5 plants for6$ plus shipping. so she told me to submit a "best offer" but i already did that 2 times before i talked to her, ( i havent used ebay except for one time before ) so she said to submit an offer, and say what we agreed ion the offer, and she would accept. so i submitted the offer, and immediately it came back and said she declined. its a preset on ebay or something about the lowest price, and she is trying to fix t. so i need to figure that out ps. sorry for taking over this thread |

I've only recently got my first Catt and I was under the impression they don't like to be too wet. I had my Catt outside at the weekend but brought it in to the greenhouse when it rained... where it has since stayed. My greenhouse is more shaded and so I'm really not sure where I should put a Catt as I know they like high light. Do you get much rain were your parents are or in NL (not sure where you have kept these), do you think I need to be careful of that, or can I just put them outside and not worry? |
When I put some of my orchids outside (catt, cyms, oncs, some Dens only) for the summer in France I don't really worry about rain. It usually doesn't rain much during the summer, and if we get a few days of downpour then I move all the orchids against the house so that they are protected by the roof, or stick them under the garden gazebo. But usually they don't mind a day of rain, and I think it does them some good!
