new leaf question

hiya! i hvae a phal that recently got a new leaf, the leaf wasnt as big as the other leaves yet, when another leaf started from the crown.

why is there a new leaf when the previous leaf is not ywt as big as the others.

johnblagg 05-30-2010 05:54 PM

some times they will grow two at once ..at least mine do

camille1585 05-30-2010 07:40 PM

It could either be 2 new leaves growing at once, or there is something that they don't like (not enough fert, too cold...) so they make smaller leaves. If you have other phals growing next to it, are the new leaves growing out to normal size? If they are, then this one is probably just working on 2 new leaves. If they keep on growing, their's nothing wrong. :)

I recently put it on a mount. Will that hav anything to do with it?

trdyl 05-31-2010 01:03 PM

Yes, it can. That would be a radical change of environment to the Phal with can effect new growth.

So will all future leaves be small? Or after she establishes herself will she have Bigger leaves?

trdyl 05-31-2010 01:43 PM

They usually return to normal size once the plant is established and providing you give it the proper environment for optimum growth.

Okay, I have noticed that both leaves are towing really fast

Call_Me_Bob 06-02-2010 01:57 PM

Im sorry I meant growing

RosieC 06-03-2010 01:29 PM

Maybe if both are growing really fast the change in enviroment is actually something it liked and now it thinks it can manage two at once

As others have said, sometimes they do grow two at once, but sometimes a leaf may be stunted due to something in the conditions.
