Problems with Cattleya species

2 Attachment(s)
I have been having problems with only cattleya species plants that I grow. Whether they are mature plants or new after I have them a short time (even weeks) their older leaves seems to dimple, not turn soft but not firm like their newer leaves. They keep growing just not as fast and not bloom as well. They appear dry but their not. Has anybody
seen this before. Could it be temp?

Excessive sun exposure. Grow just a tad shadier.

What species is this?

It looks like Cattleya schilleriana. C. schilleriana is actually a lithophyte.

I found an article that features a Q & A style writing about a South American orchid nursery that primarily deals in Cattleyas and Laelias. There is pretty specific info on it's natural growing conditions.

Just to cover some ground. What is the temperature of your growing area?

Never mind, I caught what the tag said...

C. intermedia - epiphyte.

Could you please give us the references of this discussion? Thanks.

I have several intermedias that look like that, especially after repotting. The only thing I can think of is perhaps low humidity, as the roots look fine. As long as the new growth looks ok, as yours does, I just try not to worry too much, and pay close attention to watering, I don't let them get too dry.

i think u should remove the medium... is it newly purchased??? check ur medium... if its soggy or the roots seems wet... let it dry...

Sure.

Here it is:

Orchid News 28

Just a note when Wladyslaw Zaslawski (the nursery founder) is saying "wing" he means "wind".

WZ = Wladyslaw Zlaslawski (nursery founder).

ON = Orchid News (anonymous journalist).

As a warning, don't copy and paste parts of the article on the threads. I just read the fine print on the bottom of each web page that warns you not to without prior permission.

The specific part where they discuss C. schilleriana is on the bottom half of the first page.

The question that starts off the discussion on C. schilleriana's natural habitat is asking the difference between C. velutina's natural habitat and C. schilleriana's natural habitat.
