woundering about a cross
I was woundering how well Cattleyas cross with epidendrums .I have a Epidendrum oxapampense ,very stange plant and woundered if it would cross with a sophronitis rosea. I know there in the same Family but the Epidendrum oxapampense looks a lot differant then most epi's.

Go for it! I think it will be an interesting cross.

should be interesting. there are no registered crosses from any of the Kalopternix group of Epidendrums. yours could be the first.

Kip, you're probably right. I guess harvesting so many "empty" seed capsules has made me bitter and skeptical.
Eric, flower appearance shouldn't have any affect on genetic compatibility. I'd give it a shot. |
I did that today i gave it a try .Sophronitis rosea x Epidendrum oxapampense. lets see if it takes .All i can do now is cross my fingers and wait there is a nother flower going to open in about a week on the Epidendrum oxapampense and i'm going to try to self that to.

i think you can try, but if it does not success, dont be sad. I give you a hint:
Epc. – Epidendrum-cattleya Eplc. – Epidendrum-laelio-cattleya 1 more thing i want to say is some plants cant cross each other , even they are in the same Genera. |
