should be interesting. there are no registered crosses from any of the Kalopternix group of Epidendrums. yours could be the first.

Someone will be the first, but when a particular plant has very few resulting hybrids, it may point to difficulties or fertility issues. You will never know until you try, but be prepared to make several attempts before the cross successfully takes. For the most part, Epicattleyas are straightforward. However, although I'm not familiar with this group, I get suspicious when I see limited progeny from a parent. Good luck!

sometimes, having few progeny is a result of few attempts, rather than few successes. I suspect that is the case here - the Kalopternix group is not commonly cultivated. there aren't even registered crosses within the group, let alone with other genera.

Kip, you're probably right. I guess harvesting so many "empty" seed capsules has made me bitter and skeptical.
Eric, flower appearance shouldn't have any affect on genetic compatibility. I'd give it a shot.

i think you can try, but if it does not success, dont be sad. I give you a hint:
Epc. – Epidendrum-cattleya
Eplc. – Epidendrum-laelio-cattleya
1 more thing i want to say is some plants cant cross each other , even they are in the same Genera.
