quick question

is there a specail way to prepare coconut husks before potting? i know you have to soak bark, but what about the husks?

The husks are full of salts from having grown near the ocean. The best way to remove them is either by soaking the CHC several days with regular water changes, or soaking them in water a day or so with epsom salts. The epsom salts will exchange the sodium in the CHC for magnesium.
You'll see that the water will be orangish after the husk soaks awhile. It'll still be there despite several rinsings, but that's not a problem.

I agree with Camille - three soakings for three days overnight does it for me. I use RO water to soak and a TDS meter to check the salt level.
