The husks are full of salts from having grown near the ocean. The best way to remove them is either by soaking the CHC several days with regular water changes, or soaking them in water a day or so with epsom salts. The epsom salts will exchange the sodium in the CHC for magnesium.
You'll see that the water will be orangish after the husk soaks awhile. It'll still be there despite several rinsings, but that's not a problem.
