Who asked me about my species phal. collection?
I'm so terribly sorry but I have forgotten who mailed me asking about my species phal. collection.
Would that person shoot me another mail? I have the list ready now.......... Al |

You took the words right out my mouth, kiki!
We'd all love to see that list, Al ;) |
O.K., here it is. Not extremely impressive I know but I'm getting there.
Due to budget constraints I have to buy seedlings or, if I'm lucky, NBS, so some of these have a long way to go before showing off for me.:( But growing is half the fun!!! Al Name Notes amabilis amboinensis common (white/rust) bellina violacea 'Boreno' cornu-cervi x 2 equestris x 2 equestris 'Gino' JC/AOS - peloric equestris 'Riverbend' AM/AOS x 'Zuma Beach' equestris 'Hillbrook' AM/AOS equestris var. alba x 3 fuscata gigantea heiroglyphica x 2 intermedia also known as xintermedia or x intermedia, natural cross of P aphrodite x P equestris lobbii luddemanniana 'Red Star' leucorrhoda mannii mannii var. aurea pallens also called luddemanniana var. pallens pulcherrima common - pink/lavender pulcherrima var. alba pulcherrima var. alba - peloric pulcherrima 'Lakeview Red Splash' pulcherrima var. coerulea pulchra sanderiana sanderiana var. alba schilleriana common light pink variety schilleriana 'Pink Butterfly' AM/AOS x amabilis 'Rothschidiana' schilleriana purpurea stuartiana x 2 sumatrana tetraspsis tetraspsis var. speciosa C-1 violacea 'Red #1' x self violacea alba violacea var. coerulea |
Nice collection Al! Can't wait until they grow up and you post pictures. You're right about the growing being half the fun.
I'm curious... can you pronounce them all? That's my biggest problem with orchids- pronouncing the names correctly;) Bill |
That is quite a collection!
I only wish that I could grow phals, but alas, I've only managed to keep a few alive... Can't wait to see photos! |
Very nice group Al.

Quite a few of these are in spike, some have blossomed and a few still in blossom. I'm still a bit leary about posting phal. pictures...sometimes when you get knocked down it's difficult to pick yourself up. Not all of you will understand this last sentence but for those of you that do.........think about how you would feel. Al |
:wtg: My hero!

Al, When it ends in 2 ii's, such as mannii, the orchid police want you to pronounce it MANNI-EYE. I had some grower jump down my throat several years ago when I asked about a Paph LOWEE(lowii). He answered in a haughty tone " That's LOWI-EYE ". He then came down from his high horse and we actually had a pleasant conversation about naming and pronounciation.
