This may not be a rare sight for those of you who live in the tropics. Pretty rare for our hardiness zone. I thought I'd share it with some of you that live in colder climates. Enjoy.

p.s. I didn't grow this. These pics were taken right next to a local donut shop.

I think these Musa blooms are very cool. Saw some for the first time Planting Fields Arboretum in Long Island, and I loved them. Thanks for sharing.

I love this! Makes me want to get the blender out and make a pina coloda!

Great growing RoyalOrchids!

Nice! I had no clue what banana flowers looked like, now I know! I didn't think it was possible for them to bloom outside the tropical regions.

They freeze back every winter here. This one has southern exposure and is right up against a metal building. Maybe that has helped it stay a little warmer? I gotta try it now!

Camille, if you have the chance in NL go to the Zoo in Arnheim (famous for the Chimps colony). They have two huge greenhouses (one hectar each) which are amazing: Rainforest and Desert. Last time I was there, the banana plants were in bloom ;)

Tip: take your binoculars with you if you wantto see the animals in the greenhouses: many birds are just on the top of the trees
