This may not be a rare sight for those of you who live in the tropics. Pretty rare for our hardiness zone. I thought I'd share it with some of you that live in colder climates. Enjoy.

They freeze back every winter here. This one has southern exposure and is right up against a metal building. Maybe that has helped it stay a little warmer? I gotta try it now!
Nice! I had no clue what banana flowers looked like, now I know! I didn't think it was possible for them to bloom outside the tropical regions.
Camille, if you have the chance in NL go to the Zoo in Arnheim (famous for the Chimps colony). They have two huge greenhouses (one hectar each) which are amazing: Rainforest and Desert. Last time I was there, the banana plants were in bloom
Tip: take your binoculars with you if you wantto see the animals in the greenhouses: many birds are just on the top of the trees
