wild orchids from the himalayas
 

I (finally) organized my orchids :photo: from Nepal (some taken back in 2001, others more recently), and I thought I could show them on the OB. It is always nice to see them in their natural habitat :drool:
The first batch have an ID, the second are NOID :scratchhead: (help welcome if anyone has an idea of the species)

In order of appearence (from top left to bottom right) :
Calanthe tricarinata (2 pic) - Coelogyne corymbosa - Coelogyne cristata - Dendrobium amoenum
Dendrobium amoenum - Dendrobium amoenum+ Bulbo ? - Pleione humilis - Pleione praecox - Vanda cristata

Notice on the first picture of Dend. amoenum how the plant is growing straight on the rock...
The Vanda (last pict) was in a tree 5 meters above the ground, it was not fun to take the picture, I was up in the tree, one hand holding the camera, the other holding a branch...

Any idea about the ID ?
The Dend in the tree is probably D.densiflorum. The pict was just to show how the trees can be covered with these weeds !!!!

1rst pic : epiphytic, I think this one has no leaves... we can see red roots in the lichen Maybe Chiloschista ?
2nd pic : terrestrial
4th pic : terrestrial Maybe a Nervilia ?
5th pic : terrestrial Maybe Oreorchis foliosa ?

Dendrobium amoenum is new to me. I haven't seen it in cultivation before........do you know if it's available?

Dear i live in Karachi, pakistan and need your help, our NWFP Province is Karakuram continution, 8 largest mountains except hamilia are in our country, One friend who visited this mountain area last area , infrmed me that he saw slippers orchids in mountain area, we buy mostly orchids frm Bangkok, if you help me, i will find these orchids in our area

They are very beautiful pictures! :) You were very lucky to be able to see such orchids in their natural habitat, how they were meant to grow. I wish I could help you with IDing the unknowns, but I have never seen those before.

gorgeous... for the NOIDs: pic 8 & p are Pleione... I would go for Pleinoe garndiflora or a white form of Pleinoe formosana (Pic 8), and possibly Pleione formosana (Pic 9)... note that Pleione formosana has a huge variation between plants... it would help to really identifying it, if you could give a more or less exact info of when and where the picture was taken (many Pleiones are very similar to each other...)

Agree with Ramon. Your photos are gorgeous. And now I really want that dendrobium (which means that it's probably going to be impossible to find). The Vanda cristata looks like a tough little plant. I might go out to the sunroom later today to tell my vandas that, in spite of my care, they really live lives of luxury in comparison to their cousins in the wild. Thanks for sharing your great photos.

The Pleione have an ID : P. humilis and P. praecox. The NOID are in the second message of the post, sorry for the confusion ;)

I don't know... on a simple internet research it is difficult to find pictures of it or any info related to it, and I checked briefly the online stores I know, they don't have it.
It should be possible to find it from asian sellers, as it is describe as an ornamental species on this web blog

s.kallima, what is the orchid you have as an avatar? It looks like an Ophrys but I'm not sure which it is! My best guess is Ophrys aurelia...
