Phalaenopsis Mini Mark 'Holm'
Have had this one for a 2 years now. Almost lost it to some sort of leaf rot, but it made it through. It had brown spots in the leaves that would be mushy, and would spread. Stopped it by burning it off leaving a hole, and covering the wound with sulfur. Anyway, that was a year ago. Now, it has decided to grow again, put on new roots, and two new leaves, though the first one split, but the second leaf is healthy. And now it is blooming,. Yay! I missed these flowers, they are soo pretty. This plant is the reason I collect Phals of the Parishianae section.

The splitting of Phal leafs
The leaves of Phalaenopsis can be very tender when the leaf is young. I have a large plant with a new leaf thatīs soft. I put a chopstick in the pot to keep the leaf from falling down. Others do not have so soft leaves that the fall down. Neigher should one turn the pot, the leaf can break it self in the effort to turn toward the light.:blushing:

Tindomul this are questions for you. It looks to me that your Mini Mark Holms is in an terrarium or such is that right? I had mine in my Orchidarium but took it out because of the moisture getting in the crown from the misting system. In fact I took all the Phals. out for that reason. How do you keep the moisture out of the crown? In the wild who takes the moisture out of the crown :rofl: . Is it better to keep Mini Mark in the Orchidarium?

Tindomul I have a fan and its quite warm in there but it does mist several times a day the latest at 5 in the afternoon thus allowing the chids to dry before lights out. Mine has just finished blooming however the spike has two new buds at the end. No new growth yet. In fact I lost one bottom leaf and one top leaf. That got my attention really fast. That's why I took it out. Maybe I can find a place that it won't get any direct moisture in the Orchidarium. :biggrin: Thanks for the info.

A friend told me to mount my phals facing crown down (no crown rot) because they grow like this in the wild?

I forgot to check for a scent. But I have never detected one before.
Ranchnanny, I only mist once a day. How large is your enclosure and why are you misting 5 times a day? Ottercottage, that is the wisdom that I try to follow with most of my mounted Phals. I have three in this tank and 4 in another tank. Its just this time I wasnt able to tie it down sideways for some reason, then before I knew it, it went ahead and attached itself. So now I can't reposition it without hurting it. |
