Hello everyone,
I have to ask this one again, and see if anyone will give me some advice on it; On the watering nearly daily-maybe every other, All my orchids in Moss? I promise they are DRY before water hits them again. But I don't know if they can take on water every 1-2 days. Even though they are dry in between every time? They are in all in a GH, fans, exhaust fan during daytime heat only, windows open. Humidifier if needed. They seem to nearly dry out daily. As I don't have the moss packed tight in any of them, so they can breathe. Any ideas if my watering habit is ok? I know I can't let them dry out for days on end. Thanks. |
Jackie what's the average temp and relative humidity in the greenhouse? My thought is that if the humidity is too low & the temp warm/hot the plants will dry out faster. If you bump the humidity up they may not dry out quite as fast. I'm not a greenhouse grower so will let someone else weigh in on this.
As long as your moss is bone dry you should be fine with watering every couple of days. If you're having to water that often you might want to consider mounting a few and see how that works. You'll have to water daily though. |
Jekelee - I moved your post to it's own thread in the Greenhouse Gardening Forum for greater exposure and more responses .. :)

Hi Terri,
My temp stays about 85-88 *92(worst I've seen) Humidity stays from 50-65% I put All fans and exhaust fan on a timer now. Nothing is blowing at night now or 'pulling out'. The timer is from 9:00am - 7:00pm. I thought that might help, just to keep some moisture in the pots, with nothing blowing around them, or pulling out the window. Can you tell me what's the best time to have the high humidity? Better for Day or Night? As I can't run my humidifier 24/7, doesn't hold that much water. So I'll put that on a timer too if needed. Just didn't know what time was best? I mounted a bunch of phals last night. I posted pics them in a thread last night too. Maybe under "My New Phal Mounts", I think. If you care to look :) Thanks for you help and wisdom Terri:bowing Quote:

Hardly wise Jackie! Just ask anyone who knows me!
If you're just growing phals then the humidity and temp are fine though they might enjoy 70-80% RH. If you plan to try growing other genre you'll want to try increasing your RH. Again, I'm not well versed in GH growing so will let the experts advise. |
I have many many other genre, many. So I guess I'll try to spike it up!

Jackie , My greenhouse runs approx. 60% sometimes higher . But the fans run 24/7 if the humidity it high and air is still a problem with fungus :( A lot of mine are in Spag. not packed in tight, as Terri said a lot will depend on the humidity factor I try and keep it up during the day , when weather is nice the doors are left open with fans running at night . I also have a lot of diffrent types they seem to be happy with things , Some I have to water more then others depending on the pot size approx every 3 days when warm less in the winter (In Mo.) .. Hi Gin, I will start running one fan all the time then. And spike up my humidity. I can't leave the door open, as the squirrels tear everything up! My chids aren't packed tightly at all, as I was worried about smothering those roots! So I guess I'll watch what happens with watering nearly every day, to every other. They're not wet at all when I water again, so hopefully everything will be
