Looks like my jewel orchid is about to throw out some spikes :biggrin:. At least I think these will be spikes and not new leaves, they look a little different. This will be my first reblooming of this orchid since I got it. Not going to lie, I struggled with this one for the first year. Nearly killed it and all that remained was one stem (not sure if that is the right terminology here). This will be my 2nd full year of growing but it definitely seems much better off than before.

Yep, the tight "point" in the center of the leaves is a spike forming. Congratulations!

what medium are you using?

Nice plant.

I will have to check when I get home from work but I believe it is a mix of sphagnum moss, bark, potting soil, and perlite. Probably like 50% soil, 20% bark, 20% moss, and 10% perlite.

OrchidBro, what kind of lighting do the plants receive? I've heard that these ones prefer shadier conditions, but I'm not sure.

Sorry for the late response, crazy day at work, then adult softball league, then taking care of my newborn daughter.

Mine receives bright light but NO DIRECT sunlight. It grows on the 4th shelf up (top shelf) of a corner bakers rack on my patio. (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Belham-Li...-Rack/22004494) This link is not the same thing but almost identical to the rack. I have it growing next to a Paph. delenatii and Paph. Isabel Booth.

However, I have also heard these like very low amounts of light. I can't remember where, but somebody or some site mentioned these make good bathroom plants (I have no idea if this is accurate or not, just going based on memory).

You sound like a busy man. I didn't even try to raise orchids when my children were small.

Wow! You're definitely doing something right now, in spite of earlier difficulties you mentioned. I guess that's how orchid-growing works for all of us; we find out over time what each plant likes best. :)
