NOID Cattleya pink explosion.
Just wanted to share this! My very first Cattleya rebloom. She smells like roses and lemons in the day time.
Happy Valentines weekend! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02...6e098da254.jpg Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk |
That's very impressive! Good growing!

Thanks so much! I absolutely love her. When I bought it there were only 4 flowers. 8 new growths and almost 20 blooms later hehehehe.

That is quite an impressive show on a well grown plant. I would advise you to keep it well away from any other orchids though, and anything you might carry from one plant to another. The flowers do show pretty strong evidence of a viral infection.

Oh no! I was wondering about that with the color break.. any advice on eliminating the virus?

http://staugorchidsociety.org/PDF/Vi...ySueBottom.pdf There is no cure or treatment. It is hard to tell in the picture but if you did see color breaks in the blooms then you most likely do have a virus. This virus can be passed to your other plants. |
Do what you can to save it and keep it healthy-it's a keeper!

It is such a vigorous grower and my very first Cattleya, so I will do what I can. I do have a limited growing space so I am going to have to consider my options...

It is lovely, but I too was noticing the colour break and thinking virus. Great growing on it!

What a beauty! It's always great to see our hard work pay off with our plant friends. Thank you for sharing. :)

I would be gutted just to compost this one... is that what most everyone would recommend? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk |

I wouldn't compost it as then the virus could spread to other things in your garden. If you can't keep it separate from other plants and plan to toss it, it should go in a garbage bag, into the trash, pot and all unless you plan to really sterilize the pot. Even then it doesn't always kill virus. |
Understood. I only have windowsill space here in San Francisco. ;) I'm leaning towards enjoying the blooms and then maybe putting her to rest just because of the close quarters of my plants.. There is general compost outside for my apartment building, and I could wrap her in a compost bag I suppose. Or still toss it?

Hopefully the blooms will last long so you can enjoy it. If you put it in general compost won't it go into someone's garden eventually? I would put it in trash to prevent it from getting into a garden area as compost since that won't kill the virus and just cause it to spread to some other plant.

Last time the blooms lasted almost 2 months from what I recall. Such a shame about the virus..

Goodness what a beauty and what a show. So sorry about that it may have a virus. That's just sad.

The goodness the Pacific Orchid Expo is right around the corner!
