This little guy is one of my absolute favourites. Bright and cheerful.

I have this growing amongst my cattleya and numerous other genera, must say, it gets no special treatment whatsoever, pretty much gets to do its own thing really...

Really lovely!

Have always loved seeing this one in pictures! Alas! It both gets too big and needs cooler temps than I can provide. :(

Great job! Look at all those spike. How many are there in total, three? I love mine and it's one of my favorite plants!

Too big for you?! Mine isn't big at all!! These guys are compact growers.

I can readily see how this could be a favorite.

Wouldn't say they get really big at all, stands roughly (45 centimeters ) tall, and has been so for the last 3 years aswell, and is compact growing...... orchidspecies.com, states cool to cold growing, however, I have mine growing outside in the greenhouse year round, wich is roughly intermediate conditions all the time....

18 flowers on 3 spikes this year, and gowing strong.... took a while to establish initially, but is starting to take off now. Growing in 3 directions now, and hopefully more, when the new growths start appearing....

The flowers on these are really intense in colour, and last fairly long aswell.

Gorgeous...absolutely gorgeous

And I'm really happy to hear how you're growing this one because I just picked one up a month or so ago at our spring show and while I couldn't resist...I wondered about the temps and whether or not it would survive my summer temps. Good to know yours is doing well under intermediate conditions.

updated images on this post, to show her off a little better. few different angles.... enjoy

I would love one of these! Such a gorgeous colour!

Call_Me_Bob 05-23-2014 05:48 PM

I grow mine intermediate as well!

samarak 05-24-2014 01:13 AM

Beautiful - and a species I have wanted to grow. I've haven't tried in part because I read it was a cool grower and most cool growers melt away quickly here, but mostly because I never see it offered.

Your comments about your growing conditions give me hope - I'll resume my search for sources in the U.S.!

A favorite of mine too. However, when I first saw it (ca. 1970), it was an Epidendrum, and I believe it was called something else inbetween.
