My first vanda blooming!!!
1 Attachment(s)
This is my first vanda spike. Five months ago I began growing vandas and I feel that they are comfortable with my care schedule. Woow, the spike grows so fast!!! Next Monday will be four weeks since I saw the spike sprouting. A thing that really amaze me are the bud bracts, very interesting!!! Is it common? I suppose there is something "sweet" on the spike because there are 3 or 4 ants (no prob they arenīt harmful) always enjoying it :) .
The tag name is Vanda Pure's Wax 'Blue'. Iīm so happy!!! Mario |
How very exciting for you ! Post pictures when all flowers have fully opened flat and vivid colors....that kind of Vanda flower will last more than a month from when it fully opens....I have the pure wax 'red' but it didn't bloom for me this season.
|
I'm looking to seeing pictures of it when open.
|
Ooh, a teaser! Can't wait!! ;)
|

CONGRATS. I am happy for you! |
Yay!! Congrats and can't wait to see it fully opened!
|
Well done, I can imagine your satisfaction !!
Waiting for the photos. |
I totally share the same feelings, awesome job, my Vascostylis will bloom for the first time for me as well, hope to get at least spike close to yours:-)
|
THANKS TO EVERYBODY!!! Nice to have all your kind lines.
Well, I did my homework :) because I was very interested to know more about this plant. It was very simple, and naïve, I understand that itīs more complex, but I look for the parents of the parents of the parents... etc. just until the species. After I count how many times the species appear... so this vanda maybe is: Vanda sanderiana (59.74 %) Vanda coerulea (24.67%) Vanda tricolor (7.79 %) Vanda luzonica (3.89%) Vanda dearei (3.89) So well, 5 vanda species and 94 years (the breeding line began with Vanda Tatzeri in 1919 in Prague!!!) took to my plant to arrive to my sunny garden :) Now I know and appreciate how many efforts and people were involved to create this beautiful orchid, how many expectations and knowledge contain this hybrid for our enjoyment. Itīs so nice to grow orchids!! isnīt it? Mario |
Woo hoo! :wtg:
|
Congratulations! What a beautiful plant you have and I haven't even seen the open flowers yet. My first vanda just bloomed too and if I can figure out how to post pictures I will. Can't wait to see yours.

HERE THE FLOWERS!!!! Amazing color and during the day it has certain variations sometimes is deep garnet, or purple, or at night almost black!!! The texture is lovely. Next time I think that I must to tie the spike to a stake, because with every flower the spike was dropping!!! heheheheh. I hope you like it!!! And I think Iīm doing something fine, because another vanda (the one behind this) is sprouting a spike too!!!
The tag is Vanda Pure's Wax "Blue", is it "Blue"? I mean there are others like "Violet blue", etc... Thanks!!! I appreciate your lines and :cheer: Thank you very much for your help, support and suggestions. Mario(/udb) |
