Looks whats blooming in my Hothouse
man its hot hit 107 in the hothouse the other day. This stuff gets hosed down 3 times a day and heavily watered every other day. It dries out very fast. The vandas dont like it at all. Catts Brassavolas Dendrobiums and even the small phals seem to really enjoy the new home even if its hot as long as they got water :bowing
Encyclia ramonensis. Ive seen these now called ceratistes but they do not look the same to me. Does not have fragrance like Dr Pepper either. Has no fragrance in fact. This was a Lowes bag baby in april. Now its a happy blooming plant http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...9%5B1%5D-M.jpg thanks all Im having some hot fun in the summer time now we cooking with HEAT!!! :goodluck: 2 Brassavola nodosa. One is straight species the other is cultivar 'Remar' crossed with 'Mas Mejor'..Big flowers on the Remar cross. The mounted nodosa stays pretty small as the crossed species is a very large plant. Both smell wonderful. When the fragrant encyclia shuts down for the day the nodosa takes over. Remar x Mas Mejor was a Lowes Bag Baby also  http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...4%5B1%5D-M.jpg nodosa straight species http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...6%5B1%5D-M.jpg Prosthechea radiata..What a wonderful flower and great growing plant. Was Encyclia radiata. Smells very sweet and these flowers load the greenhouse with its scent every morning. This is a keeper!! http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...9%5B1%5D-M.jpg and coming soon cattleya schofieldiana. Got this from Clown alley last year and he just had one his plants bloom afor him last month nd got an AOS on his.. http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...1%5B1%5D-M.jpg his flower http://www.clownalleyorchids.com/C.%...0HCC%20600.JPG If mine looks half as good Im taking it to be judged!!! |
What great flowers! Love the greenhouse!
|
Brassavola must smell heavenly at night!
Mine is working on some more growths although two of the recently matured leads have sheath on them. |
and theres more..
Phal Little Gem Stripes http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...4%5B1%5D-M.jpg this one is mounted in a tree fern basket filled with sphagnum. Loves it!! http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...3%5B1%5D-M.jpg Oncidium Papilio alba this one got both spikes broken from hail. Its come back with new buds on the broken spikes and has 3 new bulbs. Had this one a long time. Had 3 spikes when I got it and lost one of the bulbs then and its always come back to bloom. These are small compared to the last flowers. All things considered its done well. http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...6%5B1%5D-M.jpg Bc Yellow bird I broke a few blooms off this one moving it around, It happens. Another Lowes Bag baby blooms. Has lots of new shoots and roots. Has 2 flowers one is older and has changed color from dark yellow to bright yellow. http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...1%5B1%5D-M.jpg and a Prosthechea cochleata. Didnt get much out of this one but a few new growths and 2 blooms. Be better next time I hope. The flowers are getting larger as the plant gets bigger. Very nice color on this one IMO. http://guitardvark.smugmug.com/Flowe...2%5B1%5D-M.jpg Thank you all. :bowing ---------- Post added at 11:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:08 PM ---------- I tell you I have moved over 1000 lbs of the limestone rock(not done yet)and moved over a ton of gravel and sand from Home Depot in the trunk of my car in them.5 cu ft bags. Its all heavy and very hard work in case you dont know what it takes to dig up 100 sq ft of grass and level it out. The larger stones weigh up to 65 lbs each and I thought was a bargain at 20c a lb  Yes my back hurts too |
I love the Yellow Bird. Is that one fragrant?
You find all sorts of orchids at lowes there. I should visit Houston one of these days. lol |
havent smelled any fragrance yet from the yellow bird but sometimes it takes a few days after being open for it to be noticeable. you would think with a double dose of nodosa it should be.
Bc Yellow Bird = (B Nodosa x Bl Richard Mueller) Bl. Richard Mueller = (B. nodosa x. L. milleri) :waving and for 12.98 cents you cant beat a blooming bag baby with a good tag!! |
Looking really good. Great setup and great looking flowers :cheer:
|
Love the greenhouse and all the bloomers! I'm drooling over the C Schofieldiana. How I wish I had room for the tall bifoliate catts. Way to grow!
|
Everything looks great! I love your greenhouse.
|
when you say lowes bag baby finds- do you mean the lowes clearance rack? I love the one you call yellow bird..

Looks whats blooming in my Hothouse
"Bag babies" at Lowe's are orchids that are sold in plastic bags. At my local store they are in the greenhouse area with the houseplants and not necessarily near the Phals.
If you get to the store soon after they get a new shipment, you might be surprised at what you might find. One find of mine was a Vanda with a hand written label. I don't have the name with me but it is a nice, healthy plant and growing well. Beverly A. |
Your greenhouse is stunning! Love love love your flowers :-)
|
Great looking flowers, wish I had a Green house set up likes yours
|
:waving...what is greenhouse then is hothouse now and will sure to be cold storage also
my sister wasnt real happy about the grass when I started bec she asked if the greenhouse was going to kill it. I told her no. I was :hello its starting to be the best looking part of the landscape. Xeriscaping. I just wish they didnt have to make rocks so heavy  Its not that expensive at around 649$ for the structure. Its all else ya put into it that you cant account for that cost money :bowing |
Fabulous! :wtg:
