Hi guys!

:hello
Yet another forum i have found :)

A bit about myself:
My name is Jordan, and I am 16 years old and i live in Hamilton, New Zealand, and i have been growing since i was around 12 or 13. I am a member of the Waikato Orchid Society and i am the youngest member of the NZOS to date, and as a result i now own around 200-250 orchids, mostly miscelaneous genera, and a few Cattleyas, Native NZ genera and Dendrobiums. I LOVE horticulture and beekeeping and becoming an Apiarist is one of my goals in life.

Cant wait to start posting and showing you guys what Ive got and sharing my knowledge.

Cheers, Jordan

ps/ how many kiwi members are there here?

Welcome! It is great to see another person my age into orchids! You will LOVE it here! Many different people into a HUGE variety of genera with all kinds of levels of experience. Remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Other than experience (which I am sure you have, hearing that you have over 200 'chids, wow!) asking questions is the best way to learn! By the way your city stole my last name! :D

:waving Hi Jordan!
:welcomeflowers:
glad you found us
I know there are some other members from NZ, but couldn't say how many - I'm sure you'll spot them ;)

Sounds like a very nice orchid collection!

I can't begin to tell you how cool it is that someone your age is into orchids and the like. I'm a teacher at a high school (ages 14-16) and wish they were into orchids/horticulture.
Anywho, you have stubled upon a phenomenal forum full of great people :)
I can't wait to see some pics!

Welcome Jordan. I'm a Kiwi but a bit far from home these days. In fact I was born at 3 Mill St in Hamilton which is no longer a residential address. But I'll be back to see Wales play Samoa in RWC pool games.

Hey awesome! i live on the east side of the river, born and bred in Hamilton. I must say, it is a boring city after 16 years...

I like this forum though, the rules are so much more relaxed than RVO!

I totally agree! Either the website has been down for several weeks, or that hippy who runs that place somehow banned the IP addresses that I have used to go on there because I simply mentioned on a thread created by a member from here that I recognized him, but that I wasn't sure from which of the other three forums I am apart of! Did you know that if you try to type Orchid Board or Orchid Geeks in a thread, it will auto censor the words, and replace them with 'x' and 'orchid forum' if I remember correctly. Oops, sorry for the rant! :backtotop :blushing:

I like RVO, and i go on it everyday. Ive been a part of it for over a year? two? but all i have to do is put one word out of place or word a sentence so it sounds like im asking for vendor recomendations, and i get threatened with restricted access! I mean, they are not even a commercial premesis anymore!

Yeah, there is something wrong with that person. Shortly after the little 'incident' that happened on there involving me, he sent me an email stating that I had broken the rules of the T&A, so the posts were deleted. I replied saying I was simply having a convo with a friend from another forum about how I recognized him from somewhere else, and he simply replied that I had broken the rules! So I replied saying the rules were unnecessarily strict, and that I am surprised the people haven't rose against what I called his "United Orchid Socialist Republic." I then ended with stating that most people don't like being told to sit down and shut up. I did not receive a reply, and then the next time I went to go on, I could not get on there! I was going to post a poll asking what the people thought about post about other vendors and forums being considered 'spam,' but, alas, I could not get on!

I agree, he has done a fantastic job with LJA, but sometimes i think he takes infractions on the forum a bit too far. But that aside, it is great place. I have enjoyed the past year and a bit being a member on RVO, and alot of the members i would probably consider part of my extended family lol

Once upon a time in a forum far away, there was an orchid war. When doing a search for info on some question I had, I don't even remember what it was, I stumbeled upon an extremely nasty collection of posts (not this site or RVO). It started out innocently, someone had a query, nothing provoking, and someone answered. Then someone disagreed and WWOrchids began, pages and pages of it. I was still trying to get an answer so tried to sift through it but gave up. Many of the people who had always previously posted informative, helpful posts and formed the backbone of the forum were involved, quit. So, my guess is that Bruce just wishes to keep RVO a friendly community and prevent/avoid disagreements. I don't really mind the rules as most aspects of life have rules, even implied, unspoken ones. And, there is this great forum, too, where we can warn people of bad vendors/experiences or praise other vendors and good experiences. Yeah!

Who was bashing? I just received a PM for "bad mouthing" from Bruce on Orchid Talk. Can anyone tell me where the "bad mouthing" comments I made are?????
