Ascda. Princess Mikasa 'Indigo'

I bought this in early December and it's been in bloom constantly except for a two week period. You can tell by the color of the leaves that it's been getting bright light. This is the first time it's had two spikes.

Beautiful - love the colour.

Wow that'll knock your socks off! How bright is bright? I live in Pompano, and my Ascda. is getting bright shade under a little tree. Do you think it needs any direct sun?

tucker85 05-03-2011 04:26 PM

Gage, my vandas are on a screened patio with a screen roof. They get bright light most of the day but the screen filters out 25%-30% of the light. If yours is under a tree you might want to hang it where it will get direct light in the mornings only. By the way Princess Mikasa is actually more purple the picture shows.

Gage 05-03-2011 04:31 PM

That is certainly bright. I don't think I can conjure anything that consistent throughout the day. It seems it's either Full sun, full shade, or full sun part of the day, and shade part of the day. Do you think full sun part of the day is ok?

Vanda lover 05-03-2011 06:24 PM

That's a real happy looking plant! I have heard the princess mikasa is a really good bloomer. I need more orchid space!

tucker85 05-03-2011 09:58 PM

Gage, you can give vandas full sun in the morning up until maybe 11 am or so. I've heard that afternoon sun is too intense. Experiment a little. Good luck.

Gage 05-03-2011 10:09 PM

Ok, I will see if I can find something with morning sun. Thanks!

Vanda lover 05-03-2011 10:22 PM

I put mine on a west facing portch and it does fine, but it does get some dappled light.

WhiteRabbit 05-03-2011 11:41 PM

WOW!
GORGEOUS! good growing!

vandagirl 05-05-2011 02:48 PM

That's a nice color of blue. It's good to know that Vanda's rather not stand in the afternoon sun. I will look out for that then.

mollycart1 05-05-2011 11:34 PM

Tucker, that is very impressive.

PeaceLoveOrchids 05-06-2011 08:17 AM
