My Phal noID

Hi!
Yesterday my Hubby offered me this phal. It is gorgeous and I love it. But unfortunately it has no name. I've been searching, and it looks like to be an Phalaenopsis × leucorrhoda, but I'm not an expert. So please, could you confirm this? Pics att.

Lovely thing, but you'll never know for sure exactly what it is. There are tons of hybrids out there that look alike. Just enjoy it, and call it whatever pleases you.

Its a Phalaenopsis (Grin).

Daethen 11-20-2010 01:58 PM

Cute, Ron. :)

Katze 11-20-2010 03:44 PM

lol Ron, you do have a sense of humor

I knew it was a long shot, but you never know...

Thanks for the tip, Kim, I shall name it - I give names to everything, including cars, guitars, etc... lol.

By the way, i have a phal mini that came labelled "Calimero". Is there such thing?

ronaldhanko 11-20-2010 04:19 PM

There's nothing in Orchidwiz data base with that name.

a google search for "Phalaenopsis Calimero" gets a number of hits phalaenopsis Calimero - Google Search

tho the RHS website gets no matches ...

I like how people "name" their noids - I am not very creative in that respect - they get descriptive names
ex - Phal No ID Farmer's Market, Cym Costco No ID mini green ... :p

Welcome to you and your noIDs to the orchid board. A great bunch here. Enjoy!!!

Katze 11-20-2010 08:04 PM

Everybody's really friendly here, it's lovely :) Thanks for the welcoming, CTB.

WhiteRabbit, the person who offered me the Phal mini is not someone I'm really fond of, so it would be hard for me to give it the name of the person... I'm used to think of it as "Calimero", it's funny and may stick.
The other phal, however, is way more special and requires an according name.
As for the google search I sure did it on the Calimero before coming here, and many of them resembled mine, but probably is just a brand's name.

Thanks anyway to everybody, and even if the phals didn't get a new name, this post was nice to start talking with you!

WhiteRabbit 11-20-2010 08:09 PM

yes, "Calimero" may be the grower ...
Aww I'm sure you will come up with a great name for your special Phal.

I agree, everybody here is quite friendly and helpful - glad you found us :)

I love your kitty pic avatar!

krystle 11-20-2010 08:40 PM

lol katze i have the same phal you do and my hubby got it for me three years ago unfortunely i have the same issue you do i have no idea what its is other then its a phal!

Katze 11-21-2010 12:20 PM

WhiteRabbit, the kitty in the pic is my 2y old Gandalf. He's a treasure!
Krystle, seems that this phal is a common choice for husbands! Wonder why would it be?

krystle 11-21-2010 02:06 PM

lol that looks to be the case,i think its because it really pretty the boys think it will keep us happy!:)

cneos 11-21-2010 09:33 PM

A name that comes close is Phal Calirino, a cross of Phal. California Glow x Phal. Zamarino, registered in 2005. Your plant has some attributes of California Glow.
Whatever it is, Calimero is close to the Greek word for Good Morning (Kalimera). It's a pretty flower to wake up to.

Katze 09-28-2011 05:19 PM

Sorry for the long time to reply, Cneos, I've been away for a while, but thank you very much for your help!
As for the Calimero, it's not the phal in the first pic, it's a mini one I have.

cneos 09-28-2011 05:30 PM

It's been so long, I'd forgotten about Calimero. Hope your plants are doing well.
