Orchid Forum Hacker
I was trying to open another Orchid Forum (not sure if I'm allowed to mention the name) and all I get is a message that it was hacked by Aseroh followed by Arabic characters.
My question, does this jeopardize forum members personal info; email address...? |
ack! good question
I saw that too |
I was also wondering?
Can they wipe out the entire site? |
the site is orchidgeeks.com
in theory, they have access to all the information stored on the site, including e-mail addresses of all members, and possibly mailing addresses of any member who donated through paypal, as well as the contents of any private messages sent through the site. they could also wipe the entire site if they wanted to, but it can probably be restored from a backup. |
That's creepy in an odd sort of way... I really hate people who do stuff like that. Luckily I'm not a member of that forum, but I sincerely hope that no one who is is negatively affected by this.
|
That's pretty scary, I hope personal information will not get stolen. I wonder how long the problem will take to resolve.
|
This is one of the reasons I have a separate email address for signing up on boards.
Been trying to think what might be in my PMs on OG board. What a PITA. :(( |
I wonder about problems as well. Especially e-mail and pay pal.
|
I did a google search and found the following post from another site, from January 2009. There is hope.

i wandered over here because of the hack on the other site. i was looking for info from others that might be members of both sites.
it's good to hear in the post from matilda that perhaps it was just a "cosmetic" hack and it can be restored soon. hopefully this guy hasn't, errr, improved his skills? and marissa, i also had my ebay account hacked once as well. i didn't know it until i got my credit card bill the next month and there were seller's fees on it. i hadn't used the site in years. fortunately it got more or less straightened out, but now i'm completely paranoid about the info i put out there. i'll hang around here for a while. if anybody else that's a member there as well gets any more info, please let me know! |
I googled his name, and it seems that he hacks heaps of sites. Sometimes he leaves a message for admin- telling them that they have lax security, and leaves an email address (always varies). Not sure whether he asks for money or what. As far as I can see he doesn't wreak havoc.

that's reassuring, tansy. i miss the site already :)

I would hope you'd stick around here anyway ;) There's no reason you can't be a member of more than one orchid forum...you have the other one...and now you also have the BEST one  |

I also have had problems accessing this orchid geek site. I wanted to review a post there. Today when I tried to log in, I could not. This has been happening for the past 4 days or so. I first thought it was my computer, but I don't have problems with any other connection. Does anyone know have an email address for them so I can find out what is happening? I hope it is them and not me!! thanks

This is a bit disturbing. I hope the members there aren't at jeopardy!

I would like to add on to yesterdays post re: orchid forum which would not connect. I finally got in touch with my ISP server. After checking everything out with my pc and finding no problem, the rep. I was speaking to checked out the site I couldnot connect to, and found that there was an "Open Door". He could not believe it! He told me he was looking at all of the members information and lists. He quickly found an email address for them and sent an email letting them know they had a security risk due to an "open door". today I checked that site and it was up and running all right. So, be careful out there....he told me never to put any personal information on any of the forums.. hope this helps everyones worries. Now on to more important things, like catching up on the posts here!

read my post for today,Sat.am.I had my isp check out that site...results in the post.
