Iwanagara Apple Blossom 'Fantastic' finally blooming

Hello everyone I have been waiting for this orchid to bloom for 2 years . Finally its showing progress last year two sheaths showed then turned brown :( and I thought nuts they died. Then 3 others started and they are growing and swelling BUT the two that died didn't die  Yesterday I checked and I see buds showing . I don't know if these buds are what they are supposed to look like and I hope someone can tell me.

By the way its in a 5 inch plastic pot in s/h medium.

Oh boy Sheridan! You are going to have apple blossoms! Enjoy. I am going to show these pictures to my Apple Blossoms and maybe they will get with it! Carol

They look just like the ones on my plant. Yea!!!
Hopefully we will both have pretty blooms soon.

Thanks Carol and Betty .... I was so disappointed when the first two sheaths turned brown. :( I can't wait for them to bloom and I will post photos right here..

Thanks Again
Sheridan

Hope I got your names right....:blushing:

Oh boy, you've given me hope!

I've been waiting for mine for over 2 years. It's had sheaths for 6 months. In the last month they've been lengthening but I'm so frustrated with it.

Thanks for the encouraging post!

Maureen

This has to be the slowest growing Orchid I have.

Mine just kind of sat there until about a week ago when the temperatures in the greenhouse started going up in the daytime. Now it is really taking off. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to bloom now. Betty

Some of them really try one's patience alright. I have a Dick Clement phragmipedium that has been in spike forever. At least it isn't shriveled. It is taunting me, I swear it is. Carol
PS Sheridan at least it is getting ready to do something!

Geezzzz ladies, what are you complaining about!!! I only have ONE spike this year... over the past several years, I've had multiple spikes and tons of flowers! Well, maybe I'm glad both of you (Betty and Sheridan) don't live too close...:rofl::rofl: Anyway, good growing to both of you!

I had an Iwanagara Apple Blossom 'Fangtastic' but it was quite a different colour -- no yellow in it at all. Is this a different variety?

:)

Ranchnanny 03-02-2010 12:49 AM

Don't know what the color is yet it will be a surprise..

Most of the Iwanagara you see have the white flower, but mine is yellow and probably not Fangtastic

I have noticed my Iwangara tends to slightly change color as it opens. I will send pictures when it blooms, has three spikes and a possible fourth. betty

Oh Howard, that is just gorgeous. How old in the plant? Mine is not anywhere near that size. I have had it for two years and I can't imagine that there will be that many blooms. How many spikes did it have? Just lovely, you really do have the touch.

BikerDoc5968 03-02-2010 10:24 AM

I got this about 3 years ago in bloom from a local grower. I visit him almost every February for my B-day and almost always bring home something new and different. Originally it was in a 5" pot and last year I repotted into the same size pot and only the one spike! It has grown about half its original size.

Ranchnanny 03-02-2010 11:16 AM

Wow Doc that is just gorgeous. I love yellow! The photo that was shown with mine were white with shades of pink and yellow and suppose to be very fragrant.

I have checked it so far twice this morning is there any medication for this malady????

Sheridan :blushing:

quiltingwacko 03-02-2010 11:38 AM

Well  you could go to the nursery and buy another chid in spike . The devil made me say that.

If I find anything that works, I'll let you know Sheridan! Carol

As a matte of fact, there is..... buy more chids so you'll have more to watch.... sooner or later you'll drop off into a deep sleep for hours from exhaustion!

Here is my Iwanagara Apple Blossom 'Fangtastic'.
Just wondered if 'Fantastic' and 'Fangtastic' are two different varieties.

Ranchnanny 03-02-2010 10:31 PM
