Dakota and Rylee
2 Attachment(s)
These are our two new puppies. They were found in a drug house is Detroit, living in the basement with no food or water for who knows how long. They are full breed pit bulls but still they need love too!! The rescue place we got them from thinks they were born around Thanksgiving, but since they were starving they aren't for sure. When they were found they had no fur from a skin rash and had bloated bellies.
They are super cute and follow each other around like crazy. They have taken to sleeping on the heat vents and fight over who gets to sleep on the bottom. |
Aweeee, they are adorable, Pit bulls are not a breed I would go for personally but who could resist those two little faces when they were so in need of some love, I hope you have many happy years with them and I am sure they will become faithful friends, they are just too cute. Thank you for the picture they really made me smile.

AWWW .. Ya gotta love da puppies !
Cute! :) |
 Those are very cute puppies! I am so glad they were rescued. I am sure those druggies had some bad plans for them. God bless you for giving them a good home! :bowing
|
Thank you for giving these babies a good home. Pits aren't any meaner than most other dogs if raised right. Read Cesar Millan!
|
They are just too adorable!
What sweet faces and loving eyes! Thanks for being a wonderful person and giving them the home and the love they need to flourish. Pit bulls get a bad rap but it's those owners who should be put down, not the pups ;) :bowing |
please do not name your dogs after native american tribes. it is extremely offensive to all native americans.
|
I would think it would be a compliment .. most people name their beloved creatures out of affection not to offend ..
I hope they aren't offended by the Dodge truck, the NY hotel, the states (North and South), the software design ... :hmm |
Awwww, they're such cutsies!! You are a wondeful person in my book, there are so many great friendly animals that end up in shelters due to neglect and abuse.
As for the names, I think that Rylee is actually an Irish name. Beautiful name too. |
Lambelkip - The Dakota view on animals is as such according to Blue Cloud - Dakota Spirituality
Animals “The animals speak to us,” the Lakota say. Sometimes, if a person is willing to listen and look quietly, animals will come around and bring a message. It might be a little bird in the top of a tree, a rabbit hopping by, or even an ant. Even a prairie dog who pops his head out of his hole may have something to tell us. If these animals are not respected, like the buffalo, they may disappear from the Earth. Then the Lakota and all people will be without their message forever. Animals were created by the Great Spirit first, before people were put on the Earth. In this way, they are closer to God, helping to get Earth ready for people to live on. They were told to sacrifice themselves for others, so that people might have something to eat. The Lakota always offer an apology for killing their “relatives” the animals, and pray in thanksgiving for the food they give. Animals are also very simple and pure. They always do whatever God made them to do. They are not going around doing bad things to their own kind. They have their own code put in them by the Great Spirit, and they always live according to that code. In the fall the geese know it is time to get together and fly south. Other animals know when it is time to dig back into Mother Earth and let her keep them warm during the winter. Animals are kind to their little ones and protect them by putting themselves in danger. They only take and use what they need to survive." What beautiful insight!!! A great word to name a beloved animal ;) |

First of all they are not named for after any tribe. If it offends you I am sorry for you. :D Dakota is actually named after my boyfriends SHOW TRUCK... It's a dodge DAKOTA, which he loves dearly and has put on the back burner for two years now because we can't afford it. This was a way for me to remind him that someday we will again get to enjoy it. And Rylee is just plain cute! |
Sorry, I didn't mean to cause any trouble or controversy here. Personally, I am not offended by it, I think they are cute dogs. (and I think it's hilarious to name a dog after a truck). What I should have said is that most Native Americans who wish to preserve their culture would be offended by it.
Dorothy, I am part Arapaho (Southern Arapaho, our tribe shares a reservation with the Cheyenne in Oklahoma). The Dakota views on animals are very similar to the views of other tribes, including the Cheyenne and Arapaho. I was raised Catholic, but I think there's a great deal to be learned from the culture and traditions of our ancestors, and I appreciate you taking the time to learn about it. |
:thanx:
I agree, Kip .. I love Native American Lore and Beliefs .. Native Ams are the people of the Earth and for the Earth! |
Princess, Your babies are BEAUTIFUL!!!
And you are a Saint for saving their lives!!! And they'll show you that every day of their lives!!! And, there names are Beautiful as well... |
