Catasetum fimbriatum

Hi!

This species is really easy to grow, but sometimes not so easy to bloom. Later I'm gonna write about his growing conditions, I'm short of time now!

Hope you like it:D

Hugs!

Very nice. What is it mounted on?

isurus79 12-14-2008 05:03 PM

Looks great! I look forward to hearing about the cultural requirements too.

Here's a hybrid with Ctsm. fimbriatum.

izio116 12-14-2008 06:40 PM

Hello again,

I don't give watering rest to my c. fimbriatum because they are mounted or in baskets, they need a little bit more humidity so they don't dehydrate too much. I have two adult plants, both are divisions of the same plant. One of them is growing in shade, an the other one in full bright.
I couldn't see any differences between them, the one that is in shade has less flowers but I think this is probably because it has a couple less bulbs.

Another thing I can tell you, is that I could never have female flowers. Now I have several seedlings in blooming size and I hope next I can see their flowers and some female.

This plant is mounted on a stick of a common tree from here, Pithecellobium scalare. Orchids grow well on it, but it is not very durable. Is not a big problem for Catasetums because they naturally grow on descomposed wood, full of leaves and organic matter.

Ronald, I really like this hybrid!! Do you have it's name?

ronaldhanko 12-14-2008 06:46 PM

I have it as Catasetum Fanfare. I believe it came from the old firm of Jones and Scully, but I cannot find that hybrid listed anywhere with that name.

What a nice healthy plant a blooming spike. I like very much the upgrowing roots surrounding the bulb, they gave an outstanding look to the whole composition of the plant. Very nice.

Thanks!

Ronald, whatever is it's name, I really like it.

Bruno, it's true, those roots are great! Lots of leaves and all this kind of things get in there!

Beautiful! I don't rest my Catasetums either, and they're in pots. I think they have evolved a little in cultivation, I don't believe they absolutely need the same requirements as in the wild. Mine do just fine.

Hi... Catasetum Fanfair [note spelling] is a hybrid between Ctsm expansum and Ctsm saccatum. [there is no Ctsm fimbriatum in it]. To this time... it has received 5 awards from the AOS [American Orchid Society]... and was made by Jones & Scully [Orchidglade] and registered by Boyer in 1982.
btw... izio116... very beautifully grown and flowered fimbriatum... not to mention superb photography.
Regards... Scotty.
